Cop Finally Sentenced for Killing Unarmed Black Man

The killing of unarmed black men in the United States has been a problem for many, many years. In recent years, it has become a widespread alarming issue due to the use of social media and video recording.

Although two years after the incident, this trial marks the type of justice we have all been looking for in recent years. In this video reported by ABC news and specifically the video of the shooting, it is incredibly clear how unnecessary the killing of this man was. The Ex-Cop used the common outcry used by cops all over, “I feared for my life”. This is a simple but inaccurate excuse that has been used to get away with murder time and time again in this country. For once the man behind the gun was convicted and given the years in prison he deserves, 20 years in prison.

According to mappingpoliceviolence.org police have killed 1,049 people this year. African-American people are three times more likely to be shot and killed by the police than their Caucasian counterparts. This cannot continue to be the case. Unjustified killings are much to common in America, and we must hold our police departments accountable for their terrible mistakes.

One can only hope this is a positive sign for things to come.
